    ab + legare to send with a commission. See {Legate}.]
    To send abroad. [Obs.] --Bailey.
    
    
  2. \Ab"le*gate\, n. (R. C. Ch.)
    A representative of the pope charged with important
    commissions in foreign countries, one of his duties being to
