\Noc*turne"\, n. [F. See {Nocturn}.] (Mus.)
A night piece, or serenade. The name is now used for a
certain graceful and expressive form of instrumental
composition, as the nocturne for orchestra in Mendelsohn's
``Midsummer-Night's Dream'' music.
